Staying Motivated – Three More Tips To Stay On Track With Your Fitness Goals

Korbie-1Meeting your fitness goals requires consistency and dedication.  Motivation is also essential to meeting your goals.  Try these three tips to keep you on track to achieving your strength and fitness goals.

  • Work out with a friend.  Exercising with a friend can provide the motivation you need to stick with your weight loss and strength training goals.  There is a sense of accountability when you know you have to meet someone at the gym.  You are also less likely to skip a workout when you’ve scheduled a time to exercise with a friend.  Studies have shown that people are more likely to push themselves harder when they workout with someone else than work alone due to the fact that friends encourage each other and provide incentive to go above and beyond.  But most importantly, working out with friend can be fun providing a social outlet that is also a health benefit.
  • Keep a journal.  Keeping an exercise and nutrition journal helps you focus on your fitness goals on a daily basis.  Writing down your daily fitness activities and diet provides a clear picture of where you’re succeeding in meeting your goals and where you may have obstacles that need to be changed to get you where you want to be.  A fitness and diet journal can help maintain focus as well as motivate you once you start to see results in achieving your fitness goals.
  • Set a goal.  Setting a realistic fitness goal is an excellent way to maintain motivation at the gym.  For someone who is competitive, this may be training for an endurance event such as a 5K or triathlon.  For non-competitive personalities, it could be improving their physique by losing 1-2 pounds per week.  In setting goals it’s important to remember that they must be realistic and enlisting help from a personal trainer or coach can help you attain these goals.
